Ozi Elite 50

Post by Jimmid709 »

Hi, does anyone know much about the Elite that was sold in Australia? I have a '90 Elite which is classed as a Moped in this state (must be 50cc or less and not go faster than 60Kph). I thought that it must be the restricted model, but the ramp plate and the exhaust appear to be the same as the American un-restricted type, but it will only do 60Kph (37.2 Mph) max. The US Un- restricted model apparently will do 40 Mph plus.
There is info online about the US and Canadian models, but can anyone point me to some info on the models sold in Oz?
The Vin is :JH2AF12U0KS00x8x7 Engine No: AF05E84x7x71 (not really x)
Thanks.

Hi, I don't have any info on that model, but couldn't the loss of a few mph be caused by something as simple as a worn belt or clogged muffler? I'm guessing you've already checked these basics:

compression
belt width vs. specs from manual (service manual available on this forum)
clean out muffler
air filter element
new plug

Here in Europe, most countries speed limit mopeds to 45 km/h maximum.
On the old scoots, this was obtained by restricting the variators and exhausts very often.

Exhausts : a washer in the down pipe
Variators : ramp plates different or a tube keeping it from being able to take the belt all the way up by limiting the belt plates mouvement.

Excuse my poor technical english. Not obvious to explain...

My af05 did about 47 but that was modified (variator, shaved head for higher compression, etc). I can't remember all i did to it.

The Engine Code: AF05E84x7x71. Thanks for all your answers. It appears my model is un-restricted and I have got 39.2 Mph by GPS as max speed, (checked yesterday with GPS). Just wish full thinking for that bit extra I think - (Specially with my weight!). Still would like more info on the Australian model if can find it. Thanks again

with a variator kit and a new belt providing every thing else is in good working order 70kmh should be easy.Buy a red eft mallossi bore kit ct intake 21mm oko carb and one of the leovince pipes and get to that speed 3 times as fast and maybey a gain a higher top speed depending on gearing and rpm

Thanks all. Another question though, will a big bore kit for a SA50 AF16 fit the SE50 AF05 motor if you use the SA50 carb and exhaust? That is replace the top end of the AF05 with a AF16, keeping the AF05 crankcase?

nope wont work you need to buy the malossi bbk that red eft performance sells here on the forum. The exhaust will not work either the stock carbs should be interchangeable but if going with the bbk i suggest a aftermarket carb with a adjustable pilot jet

Thanks for that. What is the reason you can't swap top ends, conrod stroke, cylinder bolt position, or other reason?

Its a known fact that if you own a dio zx or a live dio you must replace yjr cdi unit with a sa -50 us model, that is the only restriction for those engines...

Greetings:

I don't know if MadDog's "known fact" applies to the early Dios with the 05 engine like yours. Proceed with caution, and ONLY if you find an electronically-mandated loss of engine drive as you reach some preset speed, like even downhill. Your ECM may be just fine - the "restriction" is the lack of power.

The 16 engines differ in several ways as you suspected. The 16's stroke is longer for sure and the cylinder bolt holes don't match, methinks. One you don't mention is that the case intake port in the 05 has a little open strip tucked up against the left side of the base of the cylinder jug. That got narrower with the 16, although the bolt pattern there is the same. For that reason, you can adapt a CT or other aftermarket manifold, but only if you insert a plate to cover up the wider 05 port between the CT and the crankcase.

I agree With Paul that the Malossi 47mm/65cc kit is a worthwhile upgrade, particularly with the LV exhaust.
