What crank for best all around performance.

Post by deuce217 »

Hey guys,

I am new to splitting cases and this is my 1st time doing it. I bought this motor recently that was seized and took it apart to see what the deal was. It has a snapped crank shaft (looks to be caused by a bearing failure). I figured I would take some time to figure out what exactly should happen next. The piston and jug are scored from debris but no real damage has occurred to the case.

I was thinking of doing a 125cc stroker build but am not familiar with the quality of the cranks for those. Naturally I was thinking of using one of REDEFT's stuffer cranks but was not sure if that is better than using another high performance crank that would give me more power. Here are some action pics and for the record somebody else brought the beer over I was just drinking it.

Well if you are not going to cut the cases no question the malossi crank is the best. Full stuffer cranks help with high rpm. MHR,Corsa,Fabrizi, ect. On top of that they have a lot less vibration they are very smooth.

As for big stroker crank they make a massive amount of torque. But you have to hack a set of cases and a lot of the cranks aren't very good. Be prepared to check port timings squish ect. As they are usually wack. On a couple I have done I have had to have the cylinder machined. Once I had to have a cylinder machined at the base cause the timings were way off.

Though I love blasting around town on my 120cc stroker. :thumbwink:
I guess it's all on what you are using the bike for and how much time you want to put into building the engine and tuning it.

Keith, I would not be opposed to cutting on the case a bit while I am doing all the rest of stuff to this. But maybe it is not worth it if a stuff and a BBK rip. Reliability is very important to me. I will be updating this as time goes on and will probably need this thread moved to the build section.

malossi crank and a corsa or mhr would be your most reliable set up and fast too.

Hey guys how hard is it usually to get the flywheel off these cranks? I had to mcgyver some crazy puller on there and when it finally pulled it off it popped loud like a firecracker. I was wondering if this is normal?

The puller for the gy6 is the one you need. It's double sided. One side fits Honda 2 strokes and the gy6 china engines and the other side is for the Yamaha 2 strokes. A loud pop could be linked with your broken crank.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flywheel-Puller ... e2&vxp=mtr Like this? I am so dumb I have one of these. But I thought it was for pulling the chank shaft. Then I bought a tusk puller and never thought I needed that little piece. Geez louise!

that puller is great .Ive had a couple pop like that befor i had the above puller .They were always on motors the have had epic failures with heat marks on broken cranks .My guess they seize on when they get hot .

Yes I've had them pop many times using puller.
