Head Thoughts

THE stock head on a 87 nq50 has areas that are quite thick, actually almost 7/8 inch. I wonder why this is. It would seem to me that it would slow down the cooling. I was thinking of machining some of the thick areas down but leaving standing ribs where I can. I know there are a lot of different angles to look at. I know that high perf motors that are free air are thin with tall ribs. Lets hear your thoughts.
