72 sparrow

Post by solid808 »

ok guys need some tips.. trying to tune my 72 sparrow exhaust. I've got a 72 corsa mini stroke 28mm carb lightened mag 1500 contra spring, malossi fly clutch with yellows in, 7.4 gearing... I've got 7 and 8s weights in it and it pulls hard... but heard that the lighter the weights for these pipes the better and won't hurt top speed... so to actually know I should mark my pulley and just keep going lighter? Is that how you do it? Right now my tach is only reading 10200.. anyone know the sweet spot for this pipe... thanks in advance

IF your going to lighten or change weights at all,Also think about the way your clutch/Springs work

yeah mine is a scooter alley one too... I like it. Its not as loud as a scorpion and pulls really good. I have a scorpion, pg short, and v8 stroker. and I think this pipe is the best all around. The v8 was good for cruising town. The pg short was loud lol. Scorpion was good mid and top. And the sparrow is all around... I will try to mess with the tuning and see what I can do.

" but you either have a low, mid, top, or all around pipe."
About thirty years ago most every dirt bike brand had thier version of a power valve system to increase power throughout the RPM ramge, some altered pipe volume using an extra chamber, some altered port height, some did both.
Does anyone know why the scooter manufacturors have never adopted that old technology ? What I am getting at , is that the technology works great everyone loved it, but yet it isnt used here and nobody even seems to try to adapt it.

Cavity space is the leading reason 99% of all scooters have ever used a power valve system. The honda fc50 used a weird one. Fwiw all power valve systems increase volume and port timing, there are soke exhaust systems that change volume but they are not considered a power valve.. Kawasaki does it best and honda has the longest lasting and most designs. Yamaha and the rest are simply children when it came to a great functional pv. Ypvs has so many issue. Kips is by far the most serviceable and usable power valve out there. Notice I didn't even mention the poor attempt by suzuki.

I was running a 55 and it felt real good.. but on long rides the 58 with little tuning of the screw runs good even if it runs a little rich.. temps are real good. So I decided to run real rich to keep temps good when cruising at 1/4 throttle for long periods of time lol
