questions about SE50 Spree swap

Post by Meatball »

Swapping an 87' SE50 Elite motor into my Spree. Wondering about these parts compatibility: Rectifier, CDI, ignition coil/wire,...are all these on my spree OK to use with the SE50 motor? Any other wiring that needs to be changed/modified? I'm sure I will ask many more questions during this process. Thx.

When doing the SE50 to Spree swap, How are you guys handling the wires going to the stator? Are you guys pulling the flywheel and actually unplugging the wires or leaving it all attached and cutting/splicing the wires to the Spree? Same question with Rectifier, CDI, Starter etc.

So Ive got the SE50 motor onto the Spree and the back wheel rubs against the plastic fender. How have you guys been solving this? I used the shock from the SE50 since the Spree shock is shorter which would make it worse. Any suggestions?

I relocated the shock mount higher up on the frame. It raised the scoot up a lil bit and made the rubbing a bit less but still rubs. It also leveled out the carb a bit since it was sitting an angle. Thanks for all your input on this swap, guys.

Forgive my ignorance Meatball, is that the variated AF05E motor?

I know the AF16/18 engine wiring is compatible with the Spree harness by just matching and joining up the colours

Maybe just buy some male/female bullet connectors, cut the plugs, crimp up and away you go ;)

You are correct. I swapped a SE50 Elite motor(AF05e variated)into my Spree. As for the wiring, that's exactly what I did. I used "female butt" :naughty: connectors and it worked out great. All the wire colors were the same which made it a snap. My next problem is figuring out a Kickstand. Anyone have ideas?

Check out the the wiki on side kickstands !! They use clamps and a cheap kick stand off of a chinese scooter.

Im not sure how a center stand will mount to my set-up. The mount where the kickstand used to be is now blocked by the SE50 motor mount. See pic.

I see ur predicament. I found a motorcycle shop with used parts and bought a kick stand from some type of harley that came with a spring and bolted it to my frame.
