I bought the honda spree with dio intake, reeds and carb for 180 bucks.

the guy i bought it from couldn't finish the project, and then gained weight making riding the bike difficult to imagine... so i got it cheap. the guy before him had it for a few years, never finished project since he found out about the elite. this is why the parts are rare (adapter plate hasn't been made in years)

i feel i am doing the bike justice finishing the work they started. not very many sprees like this. and none that can hit 50 on flat consecutively with the OEM motor. It was my bulletproof ride last year, but a little slow up to 43 mphs. with porting i hope to be better

i just bought an elite a few days ago. first one. pretty excited about that one. going to put on a spree frame and port stock jug and pair with a pipe.

Not seeing any pics of the intake and adapter. I can kind of see the adapter in the one pic, but I wanna see that intake.

The idea of using the Urban Express variator kind of caught my attention. Noiseguy says he ASSUMES it's been tried... but has it?? I've seen it mentioned when I do a search, but never attempted. Wondering what would happen if I bought one off of eBay and tried.... hmm...

My point with this would be that the Spree engine has bigger issues than the weight of the flywheel. Namely the sucky stock porting, sucky stock exhaust, and sucky stock intake. .
Can you explain what you mean by sucky exhaust?

It's not a performance exhaust, but to be clear, it's what the Honda engineers designed as the best option for a 1-speed bike.

The downpipe for Spree is 19mm... on a well-ported 50cc 2-stroke should be 25mm. The Spree muffler (and that's exactly what it is) is designed to make max torque around 3-4000 RPM or so and limits the engine to a top speed of around 8000 RPM.

By just picking up a pocketbike expansion chamber and welding it to the correct tuned length on the crummy stock 19mm-ID-with-right-angle-bend-at-jug downpipe, you can pick the top RPM up to the 9500 RPM range. The issue is you lose bottom end torque (very slow takeoff) b/c the Spree is like a 1 speed BMX bike... there are no gears... and 2-strokes in highly tuned state only develop torque in a small band of RPM. With these pipes the Spree would sort of struggle along to 15 MPH then take off as it hit it's powerband. It was a lot of fun to ride like this since you were in the powerband from 15MPH-27MPH... there was more power out of corners and such. Fun as long as you didn't have to stop and go, which is why the Honda engineers made it the way they did.

Below are the pipes I used to make. I wasn't great at it and still got good results *making no other changes to bike*. There are commercially-available versions now that are orders of magnitude better quality if you don't want DIY.

so with a variator, this bike will be insane.

or you can drill out you clutch so it wont engage until 5 or 6000 rpm. (which is what i am doing) not quite there yet, but every fraction of material i take off, adds to take off speed. i am now lightening components to rev faster to have clutch in gauge faster. and hopefully that urban variator fits tonight

not unless we add a kick start gear and abandon the starter motor and starter gear. i agree it would be super bad *.

You could use a drill to start it.
