I have a line on 2 variated jdm AF05e.
other than the 2 piece belt cover does anyone know if theres any differences?
also I already have an af18, ab07, and an 86 variated af05e, so please know that I just like to wrench on different things. im not looking for the fastast build with this thread, im looking for technical info pertaining to possible differences between these 2 variated af05 engines. thanks Nick :coolcruise:

Your question raises many more questions, however to answer your question one must look deep inside themselves for the answers .... lol

This is from Paulypaul7
also the DJ1R ( US Equivalent = SE50 Engine) had the 6 port cylinder and SR reed valve in the AF05E.
Also I heard you can't i mean CANNOT mount a Malossi BBK for the Se50 on the JDM version of the engine. Not sure which JDM model engine you have but they vary just like the US ones over the years, models, and makes. Hope this helps

I wonder what that issue is?
cylinders and heads both have different part#.
jdm has a better head design and a little more compression. the port mapping looks different too.
the transmission parts are swappable so far. jdm looks to hsve lighter weights but for the most part alike. bosses are identical.
on my US 84' AB07 and my buddies jdm 80' AB07 bosses were different length and different OD.
im taking notes and will keep adding to this for mine and others to have a reference

Greetings:

Flash 2 was a JDM AF05 from a model called DJ-1 which was very similar to the U.S. SE50 but with 8" rims and tires. As I recall (2008), aside from the cool intake (more similar to the AF16) and the 2-part belt cover, all the critical dimensions were the same. Performance might've been a little better than the US 05 due to factors you mention, but I quickly installed a Malossi 47mm cylinder so have no real experience with the stock top end. But for sure there's no reason you can't install one too. Look for clearance issues near the bottom of the cylinder skirts and adjust as needed. Consider starting with 8.5 or 8-gram weights and experiment from there.

From what I've noticed, there are two versions of the af05 motor. The Aero motor seems to be different from the later elite motor and DJ1 motor. The older bore has a smaller footprint than the newer bore, and I noticed that the airsal BBK is meant for the older Aero block. When I bolted it on the newer DJ-one block it wouldn't cover the transfer ports on the case.

Hello AF05e builders,
Great forum, love the discussions, and hope you all are still active !!
I recently acquired, and killed (more later), a JDM AF05e tucked under a 1985 TACT TRAD. I'm located in So. California, and I joined this thread to add what I've found so far. Also hoping to gain/contribute restoration insights and learn sources for the JDM-specific parts. The scooter ID info is below. I have MANY pics of the Malossi BBK next to the JDM cylinder (seeking advice) plus a few engine pics so far. I'll get more pics up in next post.

I want to focus on the Malossi BBK now. For the record, its Cylinder Kit PN 31 6405.
The BIG question is...will this be compatible with the JDM AF05e cylinder?
Here is the boost port:

OK, if you read through these several posts (yup, I suck at attachments!) you figured out I'm asking the forum if this Malossi BBK is appropriate for installation into this 1985 JDM AF05e (Model NE50M TACT)?

Sooo, my first scooter; trusted the oil injector; put an NCY exhaust on it and eagerly embarked on my first attempt at 2-stroke carb tuning. This is what happens when you run too lean for too long with questionable oil ratio:

What’s up man. I still check in here from time to time.
I’m really surprised that the malossi is that sloppy on the boost port. To answer your question, yes thst cylinder will fit and work on your jdm afo5e. I would put the gasket
On the cases and make any material you see inside of gasket and do the same for the cylinder. Then I would use a dremel and remove all of the material and smooth out the paths to the port opening. Thst malossi really needs to be cleaned up on thst boost port. That’s just terrible. The quality and finish from malossi used to be better.
