I currently have an 87 Elite se50 with the coveted 10:1 rear end ratio (I'm pretty sure, haven't checked 🤔) and I've got a line on a couple pipes, so I'm hoping I can get 55-60 with no upgears. We'll see tho haha.

I wanted to add to this thread that af05e bbk's can still be had in Europe from spain to Italy. a search on fleabay or google for honda vision cilindro or kit will help find what youre looking for. I have purchased 2 polini cast iron kits, almost had an aluminum polini, also purchased a metrakit 47mm, and yesterday I purchased a pinasco kit 48.5, and a zeta racing kit 47mm. these were just shipped yesterday. ill write some info on these when they arrive. there can also be had the mallossi kit and arisal kit. all are priced from 95-150$ shipping included. im also ordering an Athena crank for the vision met in or af29, that should be correct for those needing a crankshaft. ill give info and part numbers when I receive and verify that itll work. it looks as though gears are still available over there too.
So don't give up on your af05e folks. its a good motor that can be made pretty fast. ive hit the 60mph club with a bbk expansion chamber, keli var. gy6 rear pulley(118mm dia) and 87 elite se50 gears. and im still tuning. we shall see how fast it'll go....

Does anyone know if it's possible to fit an aftermarket carb on the stock intake? im stuck with the two bolt till I come up with an adapter. I'm also not confident in my ability to drill out the pilot. I plan on ordering the malossi kit tomorrow

Greetings:

Amal/Arreche made a carb for the stock Honda intake dimensions, but it's been a long time (2008) since I bought mine from a German or Dutch vendor. Might still exist but it'll take some luck to find one. Consider a 17.5mm or 19, no bigger.

heres a link to a metal spigot style carb adaptor. should let you mount a bigger selection of carbs to your manifold. https://www.ebay.com/itm/BB-C11-Collett ... 1438.l2649

Ill order that to have on deck. I ordered some main jets for the stock carb and Ive talked myself down to just doing the bbk (no head) and a polini variator for now. If it goes well and i get the itch for more, then ill grab a pipe and carb and try some big boy tuning.

I havent ordered the stuff yet, but thats what im telling myself for now

a keli variator is just as good if not a little bit better than the polini IMO. And usually cheaper. $45 with ramp plate and some rollers on fleabay. fast2wheels I believe. send him a message ask for lighter roller weights somewhere between 4-6g. and hit up bayfar on there also. get the performance gy6 rear pulley. its 118mm diameter like the zx but has 3 sets of grooves. youll wanna use the straight grooves. red contra spring belt I run right now is a 666x16.5x30. but something around the low to mid 670'sx16.5 would be perfect. but I haven't found a belt that size yet. put a washer with the boss. run a kicker cover gasket and your trans is set.

Whats the benefit of a kicker cover? I might swap one over from my 86 since i dont use the kick on it and its stock.

SSS told me the polini was a bit better than the Keli (i have a keli on my 86 and its great but nothing to compare it to) Ill just go that route again then no problem.

Im waiting on a gift card to come through from scootertuning.ca then i can order and hopefulyl stop stressing about all the unknowns

when you put the washer/spacer between the variator boss and the outer pulley sheave, the kicker binds sometimes. theres tight clearances between the sheave and kicker cover gear. believe it or not that thick piece of paper (the gasket) is all that's needed to make everything jive happily.
I think keli has better take-off and same to speed if not a little higher. but the polini is limited because I cant figure out a larger pulley sheave replacement thatll still fit with kicker cover.
I have a polini bought from a member here on my ab07 (custom boss 15mm ID then just drilled ramp plate) and a keli on one of my af05e (12mm) and a koso on the other (12mm). on the 87 DJ1/SE (12mm) I think I might try a ncy golden pulley. that or another keli. cant beat the price. but I still have to decide between the gy6 50cc and the ruc/met design. they have 2 different ramp slopes. what city/state do you stay in? it would be cool to compare.

well I got a package from Italy today...
the zetas are nice. the zeta lead/af01 looks like a real beast. I run these cylinders on my ab07. the vision cylinderhas 6 transfers and a big boost port also. but not as big as the lead cylinder. theyre 46mm
the pinasco is nice qualitybut not as nice of a finish as the zeta. the piston is super fancy with ports by the wristpins and a big port below the transfers on both sides. it has 4 transfers a good size boost and a huge exhaust port. its a 47.6mm bore and boy do those cylinder skirts look thin. might run hotter like the Athena because of this. cant wait to run it. the paper says its power potential is 6,0cv. whatever that means. lol but to compare, the metrakit paper said its power potential is 3,2cv.
to be fair though, the metrakit really woke up with a second thick base gasket. still though. 6 to maybe 4ish? that should be fun.

so to date ive purchased and ran a polini iron cylinder, metrakit iron, pinasco iron \, zeda racing iron, italkit aluminum.

the polini kit is a torquey upgrade over stock. not the fastest or most rpm but its a reliable tough cylinder with easily obtainable replace ment parts. will work with 1 base gasket but liked 2 base gaskets a lot better. was faster more torque and gained 400 rpm has a top rpm of 8900-9400 depending on carb size and exhaust pipe selection. iit can be ran hard and keep going.

ill add more on the other cylinders as I get time
