Working on a 94 Elite

Post by islandbayy »

Hello, working on a 94 elite. Previously, did 35mph. Now, it runs like crap, and goes only 20MAX.

Cleaned carb, pulled aprt the cylinder and piston, and all good, no scores.

Everything is in good condition, oiler, carb, etc... Fresh gas, new plug, awesome spark, fires right up.

Only thing left to be done, is patch 2 small holes in the exhaust pipe leaving the engine. Could that cause it to not run properly?

proper oil in the tank.... Flushed the transmission fluid, and put in my own blend.

Arg, fustrating!

Everything else is in decent condition. Bike has 7,000 miles. Engine was rebuilt last year. Ran barely before rebuild, didnt run at all after, some dumbass filled the crankcase with marine oil. Drained it out and it fired right up.

Before draining that oil, compression was over 300psi, couldnt even kick it. After, it was normal 50psi as it is on my elite, and all my spree's.

50 psi is way too low, try look at the specs on tech docs, either the rings arent seated yet- after rebuild or they are not sealing -stuck or the ring gap is all wrong.

50 psi seems to be right, as my tester shows 50psi on my own Elite, Which runs awesomely, wifes spree, which is also running great, another spree i'm working on, and many more that I have fixed.
A snitty elite 80 i'm working on only reads 10 and doesnt start at all. So i guess, with my meter, 50 would be the correct. =]

your meter is off. You need atleast 90psi to start the bike with a good working meter.

Ok, if it's not accurate or not, compression is reading the same as all my running bikes. So compairing, it's good compression then. I'm not expecting somthing too accurage for $9.99 meter from Harbor Freight ^_^

Ok, forget about the PSI, for my meter compaired to all my other tests that is normal range. It's a cheap meter.

Anywho, crappy weather, so havent gotten over to work on that bike again. I have muffler patch, so that will be next. If that doesnt work, meh, will have to sell her a new scooter ^_^
