Muffler (Frame?) Cracked, muffler hanging :(`

Post by carolyn »

Hey folks, I've got an 1987 Elite 80 that's been having a few bumps along the way. Took off the side panels today and found that the muffler is hanging, since the frame that the muffler attaches to has snapped. It's not the exhaust pipe itself, but the part that you bolt the muffler onto.

Anyone know if I should try to get this welded, or if there's a way to replace it? Thank you!! :hi:

Im not familiar with the 80 but looks like quick work with a welder to me.
I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.

Take the muffler off, carefully, and have the flange welded. Elite 80 mufflers are prone to break.
They also are very hard to find, and buy reasonably. G'luck with it.

Thank you for the suggestion! Any tips on what to look out for when taking the muffler off?

Pay attention to the head pipe where it enters the muffler.
Since the head pipe has that big loop that hangs low, it is prone to rust and impact that destroys it.
