The difference between 9:1 and the 8.44:1

From a user experience, is there much difference between the acceleration of the 9:1 and the 8.44:1 gear setup?

I'm going to be doing a mini-stroker set-up with a 72cc corsa with all the bells and whistles. I want a torque monster with a over 75+mph top speed. (something that will wheelie right off the throttle)

Gear Tradeoff Question

Greetings:

And I want a scooter that's competitive on the roadrace circuit, competent as a long-distance sport-tourer, and can also win Motocross races. Oh, and uses solar power. :)

Wouldn't it be nice if you could have it all?

Kidding aside, I went from 11:1 down to ~8:1. It's not completely sorted out yet, but the pickup is decidedly more liesurely from 0-15. Above that frankly I can't tell the difference. Top speed definitely higher, simply because the gearing permits speed without engine over-rev. But you have to have the power to get there. That's where I'm working on it.

Wheelies are easy with a rear-engined bike that weighs 125 pounds. I can do them with the ignition switch off. :)

Then get 8.44:1 gears and a Malossi full counter crank. one for sale on hawaii forums now for like $300

Do both, tune well and you'll get your 75+mph and gobs of torque goal garanz

Otherwise ministroke + Corsa + all matching performance parts will net 70mph top speed but not much more. I know for a fact since this is my setup but using 7:1 malossi gearing, I've GPS'd 74.5mph at best with no low pro mirrors. Recent check shows I'm doing 68-71mph gps on trips to school, and thats flat out top speed with stock mirrors. (They reduce top speed by about 3-4mph, but SOO much more functional than the low pros)

So I guess all said and done. If 8.44:1 isn't going to give me any more top speed then 70mph, should I just go with 9:1 gearing for all the torque?

I'm planning on sticking with the ministroker.

I guess dude, but then it'll drop your top speed to mid 60's at best i bet. not bad but far from your goal

should be quick as shh though with ministroke, and I like Ruima they're tried and true in my book

Is ruima the company that makes that stroker crank? Also, can you use that stroker crank with any old bore kit, or do you have to have a special kit? Since the piston is traveling farther up and down the cylinder?

So it's not possible to reach 70mph with 9:1??????? Or that is only a downhill speed?

Probably possible, but would be winding it out dunno for sure havent tried that gear combo

I would vote for the 8.44:1 if going for 70cc range

can got over 70mph on contesta bore-stock dd50 crank /28mmpwk/ct/9:1- pg long both 1500 springs. may vary on tune and rider weight. Note: intake port is small than dio port. Well on flat road near sea level. rider- 115lb.

just to make sure I understand correctly,

bigger gear, higher top end less low end acceleration (like starting a car in a higher gear)?

so a 9:1 has more pickup initially than, say, a 6:1 (hypothetical, I don't think they go that low.....)

seen em go to 5:1 even 4:1 on some strokers ;)

You are right that a 9:1 has more pickup than a 6:1; however, a stock elite has something like a 12:1 final ratio. So the 9:1 gears will give more top end, less acceleration than the stock gears.
