Honda Spree doesn't have a tunable transmission.
Looking for performance, I found:
Q. Do you sell performance parts for the Honda Spree?
A. Sorry, but we do not sell performance parts for the Honda Spree, this is due to the fact that the Honda Spree doesn't have a tunable transmission.

Can it be replaced or something done to get around this problem?

It was just Honda's idea to make a really cheap scoot. If you compare the Aero 50 to the Spree, you can see all the places they cut corners, from cheaper front forks, simple plastic bodywork, and non-variator motor. They sold for $299 new, though, and Honda sold a ton of them. I'd bet that Honda sold 10:1 Spree to Aeros, based on what I see in the used market now.darat wrote:yeah thats hondas crappy idea for most of the 80'S Then a Great idea came lets put a variable trans on it.
The Express has a variator, I believe, and it's actually older.

Here it is:

1982 NU50 shows a variator, and runs on a 1/2" belt (unlike the metric Spree belt.)
