Honda Spree doesn't have a tunable transmission.

Does your Spree/Elite already run great, and you're trying to make it quicker/faster? Need a monster motor swap? Discuss your ideas here.

Honda Spree doesn't have a tunable transmission.

Post by frog357 »

Looking for performance, I found:

Q. Do you sell performance parts for the Honda Spree?

A. Sorry, but we do not sell performance parts for the Honda Spree, this is due to the fact that the Honda Spree doesn't have a tunable transmission.

Can it be replaced or something done to get around this problem?

There's no variator, or variable transmission. You can swap motors with a 50cc Elite made after '87. Not sure if a variator off another model will bolt up.

It was just Honda's idea to make a really cheap scoot. If you compare the Aero 50 to the Spree, you can see all the places they cut corners, from cheaper front forks, simple plastic bodywork, and non-variator motor. They sold for $299 new, though, and Honda sold a ton of them. I'd bet that Honda sold 10:1 Spree to Aeros, based on what I see in the used market now.

The Express has a variator, I believe, and it's actually older.

Chains. Weird.

That info was based on second-hand posts. Must not be right.

Here it is:

1982 NU50 shows a variator, and runs on a 1/2" belt (unlike the metric Spree belt.)
