brain fart... exhaust port

Post by vette76 »

has anyone else noticed that big * hump/restriction in the exhaust port? think that would get u more speed if u took it out? in order to do this no resizing of the actual port is nesissary. just that rusty hump in the exhaust tract.

You noticed that too? You'll need to be really careful removing it; there's very little material there b/f you hit the outside wall. If you go outside you'll need to reweld it.

Also, can't tell if it's a real restriction or just an illusion. I was going to oil up the wall and model it with epoxy using an old scored jug that I have here to see if there's a restriction and where it is.

Either way, polishing the port with a dremel to smooth it would help... don't know how much. If you attempt it, just be sure not to enlarge the port at the cylinder. If you do, only widen it. If you widen it, rehone and lightly sand the corners, just like with new rings.

Check the port sizes between those, and the motor casting numbers. I have a feeling those are identical.

well i checked the case numbers. unfortunately the numbers on the sb were ground off. which gives me further reason not to try to register my bike. anyway it looks like the numbers are slightly different but i cant really make it out to be sure. i will check the jug i think that is at least the same. i know the cases are different because of the bigger pulley dia. and the crankcase is longer on the sb.
