Polyethylene Repair

Post by mousewheels »

forrestking -> Your pics are gone but the work looked good.. If you had enough heat to get down into the middle and did the same on the backside, it could be pretty strong. I did some tacking one time on a scrap part with a tiny 20w electronics soldering iron. It could not keep much more than 1/8" soft. What's are you using for a soldering iron?

Commercial soldering iron type kit
There is a commercial polyethylene welder kit using about a 45 watt solder iron heating element with a special tip, that lets a rod of polyethylene rod go down the middle.

On interesting point about this company's process, is they use stainless steel mesh, ironed in into the break as reinforcement. The mesh is recommended for breaks that go out to an edge of the part.
