gm amp question

Post by odinxxix »

has anybody removed the factory amp in a gm(i have a 96 cadillac deville) and used the factory wireing for an aftermarket amp? are the wires large enuff gauge? im wanting to put in a 4 channel 250 watt amp and crossover. i think this will make for a much cleaner look plus the amp i have is about the same dimension as the factory amp so it will slide in to the factory slot in the trunk and be hidden.

The factory wires are not large enuff.
You will need to get an amp kit and connect direct to the battery.

Hey odinxxix....the Lafayette moped riders have scheduled a rally there on May 18-20....I'm not confident that I will make the trip, but sure would like to. If so, we will need to hook-up and represent Hondaspree.net. I will post this for now, and add a link if I can.... :geekdance:

I don't know how scooter-friendly the group will be, but it's very likely that "some" members will not be warm and fuzzy...blame MopedArmy for spreading scooter-hate....not everbody feels that way, only the ____holes....

I can tell by looking at the wire harness.

If it says BOSE on it....it is probably amped

if it says delco...it is less likely to be amped.

Do you have the stock deck out of the dash yet?

i did take it out once and hooked up the alpine and it did not turn on, i know it has a large blue 32 pin plug, i did not look at the label on the harness to see if it said bose or just delco. i used the scohse plug GM035 it says 96-99 cadillac deville. i think i remeber someone saying on a cadillac forum that the 12v+ is in the wrong place but not sure. the stock stereo does not say anything on the face, ill take it out again when its not raining and report what i find.

EDIT:
ok traffic, i took out the stock stereo again and looked, the harness is wraped in gray tape, and the stereo says delco electronics, made in mexico for delco electronics. all the face of the stereo says dolby on the tape deck, yes i said tape deck.

EDIT 2: what is this class 2 data link i keep reading about? its saying that the factory stereo has to remain plugged in. how do i know if mine is a class 2? some have said it didnt happen for deville til 97 others say all 96 have it.

I was invited to attend on my modified Elite so at least some members are scooter friendly.

Factory radio has to remain plugged in to retain your stock doorchime on a class 2 data link system.

The alpine probably did not turn on because the switched 12v (red wire) needs to be hooked directly to the fuse box. (to a switched source).

The harness in the car does not provide a 12v ignition switched wire.

traffic, i dont care bout that chime its annoying, anyway what im thinking is im going to splice into the stereo fuze, not on the power in side but the out going side(to the front) make since?( +--fuse--splice -->to stereo). then use a 15 amp fuze instead of the 10 amp. i think that the 12 switched is in the RAP circut and thats why its not in the plug at stereo.

hey trafficjamz i dont suppose you know whicn wire in the fuse box i can tap do you? it seemed the fuse for the radio was hot all the time and then i found what i thought was a switched wire and switched it is, on or off. i hooked my wire to that and my radio does not hold a memory for some reason. i know i have my constant+ hooked right it just seems it resets everytime i shut the car off.

Just use a tester to see what fuses have 12v when the key is on.

Or tap straight in to the ignition harness.

go to bulldogsecurity.com to find wire color and location.

the yellow wire coming from the radio should be constant 12v

the red wire is 12v switched.
