The replacement parts are probably same/same...
and yes, they will probably have a similar life-span.... :urban:

Hi MM. I thought sym was better quality. the parts fail its not a good sign.
thank you for posting this information.
I was looking at a sym Citycom 300I but I think I'm going to pass.
if you receive the same parts.
I would exercise the lemon law.

Well... that's probably easier said than done.
Besides I'm sure anyone who has purchased one of these has already decided one of two things:
a. "I'm buying a bike, but don't plan on riding it."
or
b. "I have tons of free time, and I am a bit adventurous, so I don't mind saving a buck or two at the expense of reliability and safety."

Either way I'm sure he knew what he was getting in to when he bought it, and from what I can tell looks forward to the challenges errr. I mean opportunities that lie ahead.

Today, another incident of failure...
The turn-signal switch suddenly had a change in the "detent" feel when left turn was switched.
I looked down at the indicator light, and the turn signal was not flashing...
With slight pressure on the switch, the turn signal began flashing as normal.
This occurrence has shaken my confidence in the decision to buy Taiwanese.
The bike is proving to have been built with cost-cutting parts, and
while MAY be a little better than Chinese, falls WELL SHORT of the mark that Honda
and the rest of the big 4 from Japan have set with their continued improvements.
I'm not sorry YET,...but all indications so far point to me ending up with a bike that
will slowly self-destruct, and end up patched together
with revisions to the poorly designed and cheaply constructed pea-shooter of a moto... :urban:

Maybe it's time to dump the Sym while it's still purdy and newish...
...and KEEP the XL100 that has been snoozing in the garage for too long.
Very little is needed to put the XL back in service,
but some small changes to gearing would give better street-ability... :urban:

Greetings:

That's one spankin' nice XL, vintage mid-70s. I suspect even back then Honda-san had the busy-bits sorted out better than SYM does today. What, 40 years later? By the way, but do I spy an RD lurking behind it? Yours?

Thanx Wheelie,...'74 vintage, first year of the XL series... :thumbwink:
Just a tick over 2K on the clock.
I still have the OEM Nitto tires stashed away in case the next guy wants to go original.
The Yamaha in background is not mine.
Photo taken @ Pseudomoto first annual Rally/Show in 2012.
Took 1st place in "Under 150cc"
Kinda goes against my personal "grain" to join car/bike judging shows,
but it is pleasing to know that others appreciate the "Boss" enough to pay it respect.

I don't want to seem harsh, but you get what you pay for.
Cheap bike, cheap quality.
But sometimes : expensive bike and not so good quality too nowadays!

We have had loads of chinese Honda lookalike Dax/ST70 arriving here for years, not to mention their scoots. They are all just a bundle of s***, poor quality on paints, chromes, quality of metals/aluminium, threads, carbs...you name it. They have it all included in one bike.

On the other side, my father bought a Daelim S1 and has 85000 kilometers on the original engine without a missing a beat.
Recently changed alternator and rear shocks. Only.
Corean quality seems much better so the bargain "cheap bike/good quality" is better...

That is also why I bought an old Aero rather than a cheap chinese scoot brand new.
