2002 Malaguti yesterday

Post by DJPhatman »

So I see the 2002 Malaguti yesterday on CL for sale. These scoots worth a scoot? Seller claims 50 MPH, but the scoot is not running, seller claims a carb problem. Should I waste my time? For the record, asking price is $500. I have never heard of these scooters, but I vaguely recall reading somewhere about these engines being used for racing?

it's worth to go take a look what model is it... Jog/Minarelli style motors have a abundance of parts but cost a lot more and are mostly made in Europe all high quality stuff...

these bikes go fast with minimal effort but maximum pocket drainage

I am a Honda guy but I picked up a Malaguti Yesterday the other day not Yesterday but it is a Yesterday .
At first I really didn't like it and when I started working on it every 5 min. I would say these stupid Italians
what were they thinking ?
I was so use to Honda's it was so different working on an Italian scoot it took me 5 min. to find the battery
(it is in the front on a tray that slides out really weird ) to get to the carb you need baby hands .
Anyway after I got over the frustration I started getting into the scoot more and more Yes it's a pig weighs a ton
I was so * the first time I took the plastics off but I've done it so many times I have it down to less than 5 min. and thats going slow .
Oh almost forgot the Italians 1 size allen key here a different size here philips screw here 10mm wrench there it took a while to get used to .
Anyway here are some photos ...

Things I had to do to get it running ;
clean carb
fix some plastics
plastic weld and patch the gas tank (leaked bad )
re-cover seat
clean & polish
re-paint some parts
re-wire some electrics
put on mini mirrors
installed Leo Vince pipe
replaced bad petcock
put in lithium ion battery

I own the same scoot, they're definitely heavy. Not a bad bike but not as fun as the elites.
