Typical Craigslister

Post by motormike »

Another wasted morning when I went to buy a sweet-looking '73 CL 70.....only 30 miles away.....man on phone said,..."it runs fine, but lost spark when I put a new switch on".....asking $600 so I was hopeful the guy knew what he was talkin' about.....of course he was an a**hole.....after screwing up the switch installation, he parked it under the deck for 2 or 3 years.....all chrome pitted...inside tank rust...tires cracked and flat....chain rusted solid.....cables frozen....clutch engaged and stuck by frozen cable.....carb slide frozen.....etc., etc..........  ......after a few minutes getting the clutch cable off, found that piston stuck......I could have gotten this bike for 250, maybe 300, but I wasn't looking for another rebuild project.....just another Craigslist idiot.....he really didn't lie to me, he just didn't know his * from his elbow.....I'll be okay in a minute

my least favorite craigslister is when they post: (random model) MOPED 450! then you get there and he is stating it was posted for 500. check on my phone says sure enough, post says 450, not 500. *.
If it don't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway.

It took me a while to get accustomed to the way people here negotiate......the one thing I cant stand is when the first thing they ask is, "what's the least you'll take".......I now reply, "what's the most you'll give?......biting me lip the whole time.............................................. :coolcruise: ...idiots....

As most know, I bought the XL 100 instead of the CL 70........the second Craigslister sold me the XL after bringing it 25 miles in the pick-up, riding it 40 miles down the Natchez trace together with me on the Elite, and meeting me at the bank with notarized paperwork.....they aren't all bad

I've got my car up there. No hurry to sell. I always overprice what I list up, so that you can easily talk me down to the amount I really want.
Guy writes me weekly offering me 58% of my asking ($7000 asking will go down to $5500, he offers anywhere between $3000-$4500 depending on the week). I explain I can't take $4500 and give him a link to other models similar and in his price range, and he keeps coming back since April, "I want yours".
Finally last week, my replies to his email became "you cannot afford my car". By the 3rd one in the same day he wrote to tell me I can go suck it, and I let loose on him about how much an ubermoron he was. His response was that he'd kick my * and that if I wrote him again he's telling.
Anyone want to buy a car?

I don't bother replying to emails that I get on CL ads, for things that I'm selling, other than an indication if something is for sale.

Emails are always offers of 50% of asking, or trading something worthless (guns were a favourite offer in AR, I started looking up their values, and they were typically worth 25% of asking) or asking you to give it to them for free, and deliver it while you're at it.
