Got my first Tomos!

Post by EastCoastCB »

This popped up on CL this morning, so I jumped at the deal.
Image

Its a 2000, A35, two speed auto. Got it for $250 with a title.
Starts and runs but needs a major carb cleaning or replacement. And a throttle cable. Should be fun, and I REALLY need some kind of break from the CH80's.

Hmmm. Kind of like, less, is more.....Cool ped for a nice price $$$!
If you don't have a source for the cable, you can check these guys out for moped needs. Always great service and tons of parts at excellent prices. http://www.treatland.tv/default.asp
I've always been pleased with them.
Good luck with the carb and cable, and Happy Trails!

Thanks, I'll check that out, bones.
The pipe sounds pretty nice, and apparently this thing does about 42 mph according to the previous owner.
Did I mention its got 1000 original miles on it?

Picked up a 2005 Tomos Sprint yesterday. Pedals, black, all stock. Well used but runs good and starts on the first try. $300. I could have haggled a bit but I'm happy. Pics to come.

Darn it, there was a "free tomos moped" on CL the other day. I replied 11 mins after the ad was posted and was too late!

I pulled the carb today. It was totally FULL of crap. I'm really surprised it ran at all. And it only had a #53 jet installed.
I'll order a cheap replacement and filter, new cable, and #56 for it.

Ordered a new Dellorto 14.14 sha and some high 50's jets as well as some airbox stuff and a new throttle cable. Treatland are great! I wish such vendors existed for my CH80's!
Parts were bought for me as a birthday gift! :peace:

I think my oil seal on the tranny side is bad. Its smoking BAD.
I put all the new parts on and aside from having a crappy used throttle assembly from ebay, it all works. Problem is, as soon as I give it gas it bogs and or dies. It runs fine on the stand, but as soon as I try to ride it, it bogs then dies.
I will spray around for air leaks today.

I think the reed is bad, it isn't closing all the way.
I've ordered a new polini reed block for it and new seals.
14.14, biturbo - a #56 is the jet I'm using currently and that's the standard upjet for a pipe upgrade on these. I did have a #58 in it.
I ran it hard yesterday on the stand and the smoke seems all but gone. The smoke is thick and white. Its definitely running like its rich. Doesn't run any better without the air filter. Small amount of fuel is coming back through the carb as evidenced by a little bit of it in the rubber coupler boot.

It starts with no choke on the 1st or 2nd kick. It spudders/hesitates off idle and as it warms up it runs better and better but always has a bit of bogging and the throttle response is a bit off.

So it was WAY lean... as in ten sizes too lean. Runs amazingly now.

Been busy working in a greenhouse... but I was able to afford another Tomos! This morning I picked up a sweet lil 99 Targa LX. Pedal start, for now at least.

These are way addicting!!!
