My maiden voyage on the Yamaha boat too, at least the scooter line.
Have heard many good reports about the JOG, and confident that the Hawaii and Philippine riders have done much to improve them. Pretty sure there has been aftermarket support with BBK's and such, definitely some pipes. As is, the bike runs very strongly, wanting to pull the front wheel while still in OEM specs. My aim is to make roadworthy with new tires, make the bodywork solid, and sort any mechanical needs. I like to keep a 50 scooter in the shed. Was currently without when this Jog came up. Fellow riders here have already questioned "why"...I replied, "Inappropriate question".

Put a variator and a better carb on it and you will see good speeds and reliability. A pipe isnt needed but it opens them up then a bbk makes tons of power beond that. The aftermarket is amazingly large

Yup. I picked up a ruima 72cc kit for $50 and you can run em w an oem muffler. Wheelie machine. Crazy amounts of stuff for this motor, if it's the vertical minarelli I've got.

No, this '96 is shown to have a horizontal Minarelli, still very strong and fast.

Horizontals are still very easy to mod and have a large list of aftermarket parts. Like I said vari and clutch mods first transmission is where you get your reliablity to the ground. Then stock with a bigger carb and they rip with stock pipe.

The horizontal is even better I think, more choices it seems. Zumaforums.net has helped alot w mine, they have links to a few owners manuals.

This is what I hear too. Bbk and carb w oem muffler (or street muffler) gives you a powerband around 4-6k and it just pulls like a tractor. I was gonna get a stock or street-style muffler for mine but they were roughly the same price as an expansion chamber, n I want some top speed on mine. Leo vince mufflers are loved by many a zuma owner, I've got a technigas next-r and it supposedly dynos w a powerband that's fairly low, like 5-6k on up to 11 or so. It's not too loud and seems like a nice pipe to me.
