Member 'house' has come up with a method for jigging up the crank for measurement during alignment that avoids expensive equipment. Also, house included a good link on the alignment process. Thanks house
If there's no welder on hand, a sawn off bolt sharpened, and a nut used to lock the points to the vice should do.

Ok long story short, I was doing a topend and noticed a lot or crank woble, not my scooter so I thought I would try to true it. I have seen some kits for like $300 for a stand, I just made a nipple and used my vice. Let me start off by saying I did not get the desired preformance, I was able to bring the horizontal down from .16 to .08, and spec is I think about .06 (still alot in my opinion). So this method might work if you need just a tweek.
First pic is the crude nipple I made, I put a uguly bead of weld on a bolt and filed it down.
Instead of a $300 stand, the trusty vice
Dial indicator should be on the Journal, with this method you mark the high/low spots and use a C clamp/wedge to adjust. Google "ROWE" crank adjustment and you will find some instructions, or here http://www.roweusa.com/PDF/09-1179%20%2 ... ctions.pdf
alot of patience and a brass hammer is the key, note: I never found the key, I was lacking patience-

lol its hard to do huh?
My first couple of cranks was "interesting" LOL
I jus chuck them up in a lathe with a tail stock, set up your dial indicator and go from there. Takes time and patience, I have changed a few rods and bushings and its defiantly not my favorite thing to do..
I prefer now to just buy a new crank instead haha!

Yah, I would love to get a lathe, so many uses, one day!
Good tip on on the overheated rod, I diddnt catch it. I found a crank for $50 shipped, any special way to press the bearings on, or just tap. tap. tap.?
