TOMOS nitro 50, changed bulb, only kick starts now

Post by xsk3l3t0rx »

my rear brake light went out as i was riding to wally world, it is a two filament bulb, so although my brake light would still go on, the rear light which always stays on regardless was burnt. i bought a 2 filament bulb, after my father telling me that "this will do". we put it in, next thing i know, the bike wont start using the electric start.

after this point, strange things started happening, we checked the fuses near the battery, and one of the 2 fuses were blown, we replaced the fuse, and started the bike up again after kickstarting it. i rode it around the block, came back to my yard, messed with it some more, and turned it off. after a little while, i turned the ignition back on, and nothing happened, i couldnt start the bike, no lights were on PERIOD.

i realize that we used the wrong bulb at this point, i read the manual and saw that it required a different voltage and wattage than the bulbs we had just bought. i think we blew something and i personally think we messed with the battery as well. now, i have to kickstart my bike, and i have no back light at all. my directionals work, and my dash lights work, and my high/low beams. but i cant ride around like this, i will surely be pulled over. does anyone have any help? also.... can i use a regular car battery charger to charge a scooter battery? thanks for the help, anything will be appreciated.

i am going to buy the correct bulb types tomorrow, and replace the fuse that is currently blown....

Use the kick starter, it is only 3 cubic inches. The wrong bulb did not affect anything. My guess is a shorted wire or even a bulb some how crammed in upside backward. Perhaps you have a brakelight switch gone bad.

My guess is that something else is wrong with your electrical, and that the bulb is a symptom, not the problem. Check your voltages; I'll bet you're over 13.8V.
