What is this?

Post by circusracer »

Ok here is the story: A buddy of mine owns a towing and impound company. When they impound vehicles and nobody claims them after so many days, they own it. Well I asked him about some scooters and he said "yeah, we got about 8 of them, you want them"? I cant tell you how quickly I said "yes". Well the first one I got is this Yamaha, I believe its a jog but Im not sure. I looked all over for any kind of sticker or tag but this thing has a custom paint job so I havent found anything yet. Any ideas just looking at the pic?

It's got to have a VIN tag somewhere.

Looks like a yamaha SA50 to me? Vin number is were the dashboard should be, right above were your feet are put, below the handlebars and floor boards.

Greetings:

Nobody knows less about Yamahas than me, unless you're talking about late-70s XS Triples. But let's see; custom paint, impound lot, VIN stickers scratched off. What is it?

STOLEN!

No, ha-ha I keed, I keed you. As if we weren't confused enough, you say Yamaha also made a model called the SA50?! Did they use three generations of engines in theirs too?

Sadly neglected, but that saddle's a keeper, rat thar!

If you can get a proper VIN, there are sites like CarFax that'll give you a model-year if you type it in. CarFax itself is pretty useless unless you want to pay their fee. Be careful, a lot of those lookalike sites are scams.

I still cannot find a VIN yet. I havent spent a lot of time looking, I have to get my race car ready for this weekend. I only knew of the jog and the razz by yamaha. So I was figuring this was a jog. I was told it ran fine when parked two years ago. Looks like this could be a big winter project, so I am thinking of parting out. Who wants 1st dibs on the seat? lol
