Stuck on a Razz

Post by mr pibbs »

Brother bought a razz. It was running alright until it died one night. Took it for a zip then i stopped it the driveway and it slowly lost rpm and died. We got it started again for just a moment by manually choking it, but never had it running for more than just a moment.

Here are the things we have done:
1. New fuel, the old was orange and crappy
2. tested petcock - works.
3. cleaned carb too many times
4. reeds look just fine
5. compression is 120psi
6. spark is present with new plug in play

The carb bowl is getting gas, but I'm not convinced that any gas is getting to the cylinder. Any ideas?

Exhaust is clogged possible.
I'd rather be riding my Aero!

I know, I know. Working on the elite is so much easier...

Is "quick start" starter fluid of some kind? What is it?

Novs - tried to start without exhaust. No luck. I have another one I will try to use, see if it works.

Right. And, they're known for plugged exhaust. Take the pipe off and clean it, or see if it will fire without it. I drilled a couple good size holes in the back of mine after the big bore I added, and it came right back to life.

Took off the muffler, it started after a couple of kicks.
Put on a second muffler. It started then died in much the same way.

If i pour some gas in the cylinder it will start up and run til the gas is burned off.

Put a different float in the carb. Tried to prime the carb manually. No dice.

Why am I not getting any gas to the cylinder?

Remove the carb flush it with cleaner let it sit in a bowl for a couple of days in cleaner then blow it out with a compressor.

Reeds could be sticking at low engine speed. Pull em out and stick them in carb solvent for a night then blow off with air compressor the next day. That should do the trick pretty good. If the reeds are worn, it will do the same thing also because they'll be stuck open. Meaning, not much suction from the case.
