Got a FA50 today

Post by zuphilius »

Like it says, got a 82 Suzuki FA50 today. Always wanted one of these types, got one with a title. I'm tearing it down to clean and rebuild carb then we'll see what's what. Any performance parts?

the only performance part is a muffler, i wondered if i could get a minrelli motor to go in mine. good find there zup. mine is an 83 turn signals and horn dont work and its hard to start at times. batteries are expensive. i bought mine for 10.00 then they jacked the price up to 130.00.

Yeah, I paid two bens for it, but it is complete, minus a few things I'm finding tearing into it today.
1. Air filter.
2. Kickstart spring.
3. Tail light is broke.
4. Rear reflector broke.
5. Muffler has been welded back on pipe with a brace for good measure.
6. Rear wheel has a couple broken spokes and they seem to be pulling the holes in the hub.
7. Rear tire is bald.

Also missing is the leg shield, Rats!! I know its an optional thing, but I think it adds character.

The pipe is not available at this moment. I have the battery, but it may not be okay. I'm going to add some acid to it and see if it charges.

The guy said it ran last year and can't get it to run this year. I took the pipe off and no wonder, I poured out about a pint of oil on the garage floor.

I should have this thing running when I get the parts I'm ordering today. (two weeks to get them).

I'm pretty sure most parts are still available from Suzuki.

'Another scooter deal?' :thumbwink:

Dac posted some pics of an extreme Suzuki makeover. Along with lot of other mods, it looks nothing like a FA50. Guy cut the case and welded in a different rear to get it variated.

Not too sure it's a deal anymore. The carb is going to need a VERY thorough cleaning. all the passages are closed, like he got water in there from the fuel left in over the winter.

I'll work it out, I always do. But I hate cleaning carbs.

Okay, cleaned the carb, got it mostly back together, gonna get new fuel and oil lines then try it out. I found the performance pipe that treatland has out of stock on a different site. If I got this pipe, is there any other mods I need to do in conjunction with this? I still need a tail light lens since mine is completely broken, not to say it is also in the garbage can.

Noticed on Moped Army a member mentioned that a Spree cylinder and piston will fit the FA50. True?
