yamaha razz help

Post by bc117 »

hey guys just bought a 1994 yamaha razz non running for 50 bucks, decent shape and now i need help finding out what is wrong/missing, its got beautiful spark, and what feels like compression, also cleaned the mess of a carb that was some how full of rust?(plastic tank+aluminum carb=rust :*: ) but still no luck not even a fire, maybe reeds? guess i will try to replace what is missing took a peek at the wiring the PO lost the key and "hot wired" it but looks like he just removed s*** till it ran lol... heres a pic of the front looks like its missing atleast 2 pieces, the ignition lock, and the handle bar where a choke cable or something is sticking out appears to have been broke off. well guys hope you can help me out know this aint a yamaha forum :bowrofl:

Plastic fuel tank has nothing to do with the rust. Water in the gas causes rust. Plastic has nothing to do with it. Oh and aluminum can not rust. Corrode maybe but not rust.

"Feels like compression" means nothing. Until you do a compression test you have no clue whether there is enough compression to run or not. I have and engine that feels like compression but 60 PSI will not run.

Your cleaning of the carb means nothing either. Try some prime into the carb, a mix of gas and oil at 32 to 1 ratio. If the choke (enrichening system) doesn't work, the starting is probably not gonna happen even if every thing else is right.

Reeds are a possibility, but try the prime first.

exactly what i meant bear how does aluminum and plastic rust, i assume its a iron component or something somewhere up stream, but ya i got it running and seems to run great reeds were fine just was full of water that i had to drain, i just need to buy a nut for the axle so the wheel doesnt come off and then fix the choke thing so i can start it without fluid, and maybe find out what wiring is missing

It can just be the mineral content of the water too and alcohol enhance (now there is an oxymoron if there ever was one) gas pulls moisture out of the air.

still tryin to get the lights to work ive looked online and the ignition switch is way too expensive any one know if i can wire the lights to always be on then just throw in a simple on off switch, could i wire in like a cheapo ignition from a autoparts store? looks like there are 3 wires in a connector black/white=negative, red=positive, brown= unknown plus a lone black/white wire in a bullet connector which i assume is the ground

Auto parts switch will not work. When you turn the ignition off, there are a set of contacts the connect to shut off the ignition (grounding the ignition). A marine ignition switch for outboards will work.
