Suzuki FA50 - bogging down at high speed

My FA50 is bogging down at 20 mph and won't go over 21mph. Vibrates and grumbles over 20 mph also surges to 24mph briefly while running real smooth for just a second. Not sure what's going on so want to play with the carb.

I don't have an owners manual. Any tips on making adjustments to the carb? It seems to run a bit rich and thought I would start with getting it a bit leaner. Carb is brand new. Don't know what screws are what on it.

Fuel and oil system was cleaned up after it was in storage for 20 years. Carb needed to be replaced. New plug. Idles good. Started right up but won't get up to top speed.

Any suggestions? Only had 1800 miles on it but sat since 1988.

Determined the 2 screws on the carb are idle and air. Left screw appears to be the idle as it definitely effects that. Right screw I'm assuming is an air jet as it's right in front of the intake of the air cleaner. Air screw has no effect on engine whatsoever that I can tell. I'm no longer thinking this is a lean/rich problem but something else.

Primary symptom is bogging down at 20 mph with surging briefly and periodically at that speed.

don't know a thing about your scoot. but found this link

I would look at the drive belt if it's been in storage that long, probably dried and cracked also check the roller weights

the FA50 does not have a drive belt, it does have a chain drive. the FA50 is a fickle beast. 21-27 is all i have had outta mine. make sure your air filter is calean and oiled, is the carb clean through.? do plug chops do get you close, but sounds like your there. at treantland.com there is an exhaust for it, but alas its always sold out.
