yamaha jog/zuma question

so on the yamaha jogs and zumas ive heard the minarelli motor is restricted and does not reach its full speed.does any one know if there are a few little tricks to open these motors up without going all out with a bigbore kit?i noticed if youtake the muffler off on the jug it looks like a 1/4 of it is blocked off.i was wondering has any one ever grinded that to where it would open it up more?
