Yamaha Vino Variator Grinding Noise

Hi there everybody, so I got myself a 2005 Yamaha Vino 125 from a kid who said it didn't run after installing a new V-belt on it. After tinkering with it for less than an hour, I got it started. It runs beautifully other than this gross grinding noise coming off the variator side. Now I can't tell if its an improper kickstart gear install, or if he put the variator on wrong when he put it back together, but I took a video of it momentarily just to show what I'm hearing. If anybody has any thoughts on it please feel free to throw some advice my direction. Thanks a bunch! Here's the link to said video:

take off the side cover take off the belt remove spark plug
put the variator and outer plate and nut on
turn over with a wrench see if it is stull there
if it is gone could be kickstarter

Thank you very much cruzingratiot, I'll get right on it and let you know how it goes. I suppose even with everything as is if I hand crank it over and there's no grind that probably wouldn't be enough to bank on it being the starter gear? Thanks again!
