2001 Kymco Cobra 50

Post by Chevyguyjayisback »

So I'm working on this bike. The crank bearings broke apart and took out the cylinder piston and rings. This is a two-stroke engine. I have no idea what it's called and where I would find parts for this thing can anybody help me out or steer me in the right direction. Thanks

Kymcoforums.com or whatever they are. You have a ba10 derived engine.

It's not a zuma style. It's a ba10 style. It's an abortion from an af34/35 and a mina. Same engine is found on the people, s8 2t, s9 ac, vitality 2t, cobra racer, yup, like, and any other kymco horizontal. The zx50 and man boy are the Honda af18 style clone. And none are true minarelli style.
The ba10 uses a 41.4mm stroke with a Mina bolt pattern cylinder. You can not just bolt on most mina bores asThey're set up for 39.2mm stroke. Brandon can get intake adapters for them to be converted to a Mina style intake using your stock reed cage. The options are slim for intake and reed cage options.
Exhaust options are limited as well. The triops from technigas is suppose to be the best. You can modify exhaust to fit from other horizontal but due to the raised bore platform the ba10 uses you'll have a trial and error session.
Finally onto transmission.. most of your Honda af16-35 parts work. Gear selection is limited. Jasil made some and a few other companies but beware you'll order a lot of wrong gear sets.
Stick with the smaller carbs. Anything over 24mm is overkill on a ba10 engine unless you do extensive porting to the cases. Their set up is horrible.

I've dealt with these engines for a good many years and if you keep them stock they last a really long time. Common to see a people with over 20k km.

If you want to modify get the motor that, that one is cloned off of that bolts right up and upgrade that one.

Thanks for the info guys. I see some cylinder kits on eBay and just not sure if I should get one or not. The guy that owns the bike wants it fixed. It's hard to even find a stock piston cylinder and rings for it. It's a clean bike. I hope I find parts soon for it.

Photobucket.com for pics. 1man8scoots, is this maybe a piaggio-based motor? I thought most of kymco stuff was piaggio lc, mina lc, or af18-cloned motors.
