Hi Everyone!
Back from a multiple year hiatus... :b2t:

Neighbor is helping me get this one running again...
It starts but dies shortly thereafter... gas starved we believe...
So off comes the carb and the fun begins...
When you pull apart and clean the carb, what parts do you normally replace?
I'm getting confused from what I read online..

Where is a good place to order the parts suggested?
My local dealers have both told me those parts will need to be "special ordered"... done that before and 2 weeks later...
so I hope to just order online asap.

and any good forums for yamaha scoot enthusiasts? I'm on the Zumaforum... (but this is the best scoot site :2thumbs:

Welcome back donut... :hi:
I just bought this '93 Jog Artistic Spec.
It is doing the same thing.
The carb has already been cleaned to get it to a running status.
Runs great for a block, then no gas for a few seconds.
I suspect two things.
Collapsed, deteriorated fuel hose,
and / or debris in bottom of tank or in petcock.
Try those two while you have it taken apart.
And, of course, clean that carb... :urban:

I would check the petcock and the carb fuel inlet valve seat. Sometimes mine on my jog gets clogged with debris, seems like a very small carb and it gets clogged easy. 49ccscoot.com has lots of info on these motors, so does 2strokeassassins.com

Thanks, we just got it back together... it runs but then dies... seems like too much air and runs without airbox but as soon as airbox put on... dies.. oh and it will start/run with your hand covering most of the intake... any ideas? thanks!

Putting your hand on the intake makes more vacuum like a choke on an old car. Causes more fuel to come out the pilot. Sounds like a clogged carb. Or maybe a air filter, but I'm guessing carb. Take it apart and clean it thoroughly, not just spray it out with carb cleaner. You may need to rebuild the carb or clean the exhaust of carbon build up with a torch or BBQ. But probably carb.

Also, if you haven't already, start with required maintenance. Find a manual online (at either of the two sites I posted) and find out what your supposed to replace at what intervals. Replace that stuff. Do a "tune up", and I bet it runs fine. Air filter, fuel filter (if it has one), spark plug, rollers, belt, etc. Spend a couple bucks on replacement parts and you'll never regret it, even if it's not the "problem". Nobody isn't in need of an extra belt or air filter that isn't used up all the way, you never know when you may need em as "test" parts.
