Yahama Vino - Oil Spill

I was taking my daughter on a ride on my '08 Vino 50 (4 stroke) and it started bogging a bit. We heard a loud 'pop' (backfire maybe?) so we returned home, about a block away. When we stopped, it was smoking badly and there was oil DUMPING onto the ground so I shut it down.

1. I haven't torn into it yet, but wondering it a backfire could cause this? Crank seal blown out maybe?

2. Where should I look first?

Also, i put some SeaFoam in the tank a few days before because it had been hard to start when normally it was a first-kick start every time. Does SeaFoam cause side effects?

Any help would be great.

Brad

Your first step is finding the source of the oil leak. Could be anything from a blown seal / gasket to a cracked case... you won't know until you start pulling off the panels.

On 4 strokes backfire is usually caused by ignition issues... if you've ever tried shutting off engine while driving a manual transmission car with carb, then re-starting, you get a fierce backfire from the loaded up fuel charge in the system. Review your ignition components.

Thanks, Noiseguy. I'll tear into it this weekend and report back what I found.
