Stock Intake Manifolds

Post by Bear45-70 »

I have 4 stock intakes on my computer desk. So out came the camera and calipers. The results below.

And some visual comparison.

The last picture sucks but with half a dozen tries it got no better than this.

so does the bolt spacing line up from the dio intake and the aero 80 intake? it could be a good alternative if both the bolt patterns are the same on the carb and case.

Yes, the two manifolds have the the same bolt pattern at the reed block. Also the bigger Aero 80 reeds will fit into the block also.

However the carb and carb mounting are different. The Aero 80 uses a PB54 carb which is a 16 mm carb and has 42 mm mounting bolt center to center spacing as apposed to the smaller PA carb which has 36 mm center to center mounting bolt spacing. But the bigger carb would be an asset as the venturi is thin and narrow which helps low end while enhancing top end air flow. Also th PB carbs have a changeable pilot jet.

hmmm. how close are the dimensions to an nb50/se50 intake in regards to height and angle? could be a good alternative to a ct intake for bbk aero owners that dont want to cut their side panel for carb clearance...
the 125 intake was a different bolt pattern on the case side correct. it def looks like it from the pics.

I don't know about the differences in the NB50 (1983-1984 & 1986-1987) and SA50 intakes as I only have 2 1985 NB50 motors and both use the 2 bolt manifold like the Spree. I believe the Aero 80 manifold is a good upgrade for most of the 4 bolt intake engines, if you go with the bigger carb.

As to the Aero 125 manifold. Yes, it's bolt pattern at the reeds is slightly wider, but the holes do overlap the Aero 80 manifold bolt holes. So elongating the holes would make that manifold work, but the 125 manifold is rare here in the US as it was only produced in 1984 (in the rest of the world it was made for 1983 thru 1987). The Aero 80 was made from 1983 thru 1985. The carb is even bigger on the 125 at 18 mm and the mounting spacing is wider than the Aero 80 even. So if you see a good deal on an Aero 80 manifold, reeds and carb, grab it.

Greetings:

Helpful stuff, Mr. Bear. Hope you don't mind it being preserved for posterior-ity.
