My First Spree Swap (Aero NH125)
Hello everyone,
I'm new here but have been lurking this great and resourceful forum a couple months now. All the info has helped me bring my first spree back from the dead. But the stock NQ50 doesn't cut it on a lot of the roads here, but very fun to ride. I guess the usual complaints apply, just not fast enough and sucks on hills.
I figured a swap would be my best option to go the speeds I wanted, so I hit the classifieds for a donor moped. I was lucky enough to score a 1984 Aero 125 for only $150, but it hadn't ran in years. With a bit of effort and reading the manuals available here on the forum I got it fired up, but still needs some carb parts to run right.
It would be a shame to take apart my first spree for this swap, so I found another frame to mangle. I fabricated a motor mount so far, lining everything up was pretty difficult. Did a quick shock mount, but planning to redo it and use 2 shocks like the Aero. Also thinking about re-enforcing the frame a bit.

WOW looks super kewl so far man, great job once you get the motor good and mounted you should look into swapping the front forks from the aero to give you the added stopping powers and it would raise the front end to match the rear

Re: My First Spree Swap (Aero NH125)
Thanks, I've been thinking of a front brake swap but the 125 is too big. I'd like to get a hold of an aero or elite 50 front setup.Mystic wrote:WOW looks super kewl so far man, great job once you get the motor good and mounted you should look into swapping the front forks from the aero to give you the added stopping powers and it would raise the front end to match the rear
Re: My First Spree Swap (Aero NH125)
Thanks! The aero body parts will be up for sale soon, probably cheap too. Also have the bare aero frame w/title, so I'll try to sell that too.swimmingfree wrote:boy for a first build looks Grate !!

Re: My First Spree Swap (Aero NH125)
you sure you cant take the entire front fork loose, cut the stem off and weld the stem from the spree onto the aero forks? thats what I did with the elite sa50 fork and the spree stem, you have to modify the plastics then again I have no experience with the aero 125

Re: My First Spree Swap (Aero NH125)
After pulling the aero front fork assembly off the frame and comparing it to a spree fork I think it might be do-able. Probably won't get to it until this winter.
Re: My First Spree Swap (Aero NH125)
Yup I think you can do it and it would be alot safer

I haven't researched this yet, what model scooter can you swap disc brakes from? I think it would be hard to find a complete setup, might as well just use what I already have and save money.sum-azn-kid wrote:why not disk brake your spree?

Re: My First Spree Swap (Aero NH125)
Yeah, my brakes suck on my stock spree so I could imagine trying to stop going even faster. I can't get caught doing over 35mph here without a motorcycle endorcement, so I'll have a speedo for sure.swimmingfree wrote:i will say something about the front end swoop better ride braking and look ...

Re: My First Spree Swap (Aero NH125)
Did some re-enforcement work on the frame and new shock mounts.
Re: My First Spree Swap (Aero NH125)
Got the engine back on and wired up, I'm using the complete aero wiring harness spliced into the spree cluster and left side hand controls. Still need to finish up a couple things, the foot brake safety switch needs to be bypassed and run wiring to the hand brake.
