Re: carbon build up
take the exaust off and put it in a camp fire in which it will get red hot and all the carbon will burn off. thats the easyest way without having to use massive amounts of sketchy chems
Re: carbon build up
Sure, use a better quality oil and you won't have the problem to start with. To remove the carbon, remove the exhaust and crap it out of the port.

I'll bet he meant "SCRAPE"... as I'm not sure how to crap it out....Bear45-70 wrote:Sure, use a better quality oil and you won't have the problem to start with. To remove the carbon, remove the exhaust and crap it out of the port.

LOL! Hey spell check only works if the word is spelled wrong, not the wrong word. My proof reading skills need improvement even after all these years.PolarIce wrote:I'll bet he meant "SCRAPE"... as I'm not sure how to crap it out....Bear45-70 wrote:Sure, use a better quality oil and you won't have the problem to start with. Re: carbon build up
Be careful not to scratch the piston and rings when scraping out the port. I have used a plastic pick and it worked fine.

Re: carbon build up
The rounded end of a fairly stiff feeler gauge works well.
If you want to actually get inside the port, buy a cheap set of small files and bend them to your needs.

Re: carbon build up
A set of small round wire brushes chucked into a drill motor works well for an assembled motor. As mentioned before, do not damage the piston or rings but if you just move the piston to BDC you will not have that issue.

Re: carbon build up
so will it be ok if the small pieces of carbon fall inside the cylinder on the piston?
Re: carbon build up
Yes, or you can stuff a rag into the cylinder to keep it out.
