High Octane Ethanol vs Regular Grade Non-ethanol

Post by GuavaJam »

The high octane w/ethanol seems better performance wise on my stock bore dd50, but I know the ethanol-free is better for the longevity of the bike. Thoughts?

Please quote the reference you've used to come to this decision that non-ethanol is better for longevity.

From what I heard, ethanol is bad/somewhat corrosive on certain engine components. Supposedly since ethanol is an alcohol, it can absorb more water than pure gas. When this level gets too high, it can separates from the gas, changing the composition of the liquid. Obviously water in the gas is bad for engines.

I have seen ethanol fuel turn into bubble gum in carbs. Its also death to a lot of fuel pump diaprams. That's why so many gas trimmers end up in the garbage, people use ethanol fuel in them, leave the tank full of it over the winter and the carb is toast.

Has it been established that Congress will not re impose this mandate? They have talked about it but mostly it's just talk. Until congress says it's not going to renew the bill do not count your chickens before they're hatched.
I hope it does go away.

Greetings:

Off the top of my pointy head, I can think of two Unintended Consequences of the Ethanol craze:

1: Production of ethanol has diverted a sizeable portion of America's corn crop to making the fuel. This has driven up the cost of my Chee-Tos, and is unacceptable. (Also every other food that depends on corn... like Steak!)

2: Ethanol arguably burns cleaner, but it is a fact that it doesn't pack in as much fuel energy per unit volume as does gasoline. Consequently fuel mileage on computer-controlled vehicles tends to go down, along with power produced.

Yeah it might also eat away at some rubber lines, seals and all, but it really was/is a Collossally Bad Idea, driven by Lobbyists and supported by easily-fooled Greens.

I use rec 90(Orv fuel) on all my mopeds. It is 90 octane, ethanol free and is unleaded. My elite 50 loves it and so do my sprees. My elite 50 does run better with a little bit (a really small amount) of aviation fuel mixed in. It also smells better
Have 4, 84-86 Sprees
