Taz carb kits for the Spree BBK are NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Post by eclark5483 »

http://www.ebay.com/itm/372098707484

Just ordered 2 of them. I will be ditching my carbs though, in place of 17mm Polini's instead. So if anybody wants to buy my carbs when they get here, just let me know. The important thing though, is if you have been holding out on doing a BBK on your Spree because of the stock intake issues. That problem will be taken care of by this kit. So come on... MAKE YOUR SPREE AS FAST AS MINE... EVEN FASTER!!

I think many of us have been waiting a LONG LONG time for these.

I plan on swapping out the Kitaco on mine for one of the kits, the other one will go on my other Spree. So I will more then likely have that old Kitaco I am using up for sale too (real cheap). In addition, I will more then likely offer up my ported SB50 reeds as well. That's how good these Taz carb kits are..

Expect some more dyno run vids after I have these installed on both scooters to see a HP/Torque comparison between stock gears and pipe .vs Taz gears and MLM.

GET ONE!!

But CAUTION!! I don't believe the carb provided with the kit has the extra inlets for vacuum or oil (or maybe it does and I just didn't see it, perhaps Taz could give more insight). If you get one of these kits, you will maybe only have 1 line (on the intake) just for vacuum, so you will either have to

A: Delete the oil pump and run 32:1 premix in the tank
or
B: Do like I am doing and swap out that carb for a Polini which DOES have the extra feed for the oil pump and run 96:1 in the tank with the oil pump.

This is also a 21mm carb, recommended MAX for a Spree/Elite E, is 18mm. It will work, but for more fine tuning, you'll want to consider a smaller carb later on down the line for better vacuum pressure through the venturi.

Also, if you are not familiar with this type of carb, it has a MANUAL choke. There are extender cables available for it that allow you to mount the choke in a more accessible location.

EDIT: UPDATE, IT DOES INDEED HAVE THE EXTRA NIPPLE FOR THE OIL INJECTOR, NO MODS NEEDED.

I suggest a 3rd option: Drill and tap the intake for a second inlet. Fittings are readily available and found with R/C parts suppliers.

I like that!! That's probably the cheapest, most easily done option without messing with the pump, or buying another carb. The 21mm will work, but there is room for optimization here without spending a fortune. I'd maybe eBay out the 21mm carb in the kit and invest in a 18mm Mikuni from treatland: https://www.treatland.tv/mikuni-vm-18mm ... -slide.htm. Cheaper alternative to Polini and upgrade from carb in Taz kit. Still can add same features like choke extensions and easy cheap jetting changes.. If ya gonna do this people, just sell the taz carb+cable from his kit for the price of the treatland Mikuni on eBay with cable included+ shipping, So like $79 with free shipping on eBay for the 21mmcarb, throttle cable, filter. Same price as Mikuni on treatland not counting shipping. Fair deal for both buyer and seller, easy swap to get that Mikuni for buying a Taz kit pretty cheap and fair in pricing. I think the Taz one's are "OKO"??? Someone clarify/correct me on this.

For a comparable Polini setup, I paid $209 for a Polini carb kit for stock Spree manifold. I could have bought the items I needed separately, but I am using some forward thinking here. I want to leave open the option (and possible future sell to interested parties), the notion that they can have a properly ported SB50 intake/reed set, with the required adapters needed to still retain a stock carb, or buy an optional aftermarket kit.

So I turn around and sell parts I have no current use for, in a package deal that gets someone on a budget, a quick Spree done proper using SB50 intake/reeds that they can use their stock carb on with the jet from the Taz BBK Kit.. I'm a nice guy like that. Wish others were the same.. But only to those who truly are committed to revitalizing these bikes. Hate to see some idiot speed junky think he's gonna buy these hard to come by parts and just rip his bike all to heII. SWAP IN A DIO !! Your dealing with 30+ year old delicate parts here. But they are a blast to just build up for the heck of it.

Received kit today, got a better chance to check it out. Although, he made a mistake and only sent me 1 kit when I ordered 2. But anyways, I can confirm that the carb in the kit does in fact, have the needed port for the oil injector.

Mouth opening (32mm) is wider then the Polini (23mm), so to use a Polini with the intake kit will require the correct adapter.

Checked out the jets to see what ships with the carb. Pilot is a #42, Main is a #102. Would recommend you reduce this down to a #36 pilot and #90 main, tape filter and adjust back pressure..21mm is TOO MUCH carb for a Spree (18.5mm MAX is most optimal). It WILL work, but you need to tighten the filter restriction a bit.

Main jets are the exact same type as Polini, Pilot jets are larger then Polini, kinda looks like typical GY6 pilot.

So Taz recommended to me that others have reduced the size of the pilots in his kits down to a 40 and main down to a 98. I contend that I can go lower on the pilot, and higher on the main using a smaller Polini 17mm CP carb set at #38 pilot, and #104 Main on a Joe Daniels (1man8scoots)ported (racing class) Tazland 48mm BBK. yeah, gonna make this 2smoke rip some serious azz.

I suggest capping the port on the intake and running the carb the way Polini designed it.

I agree with meatball. It seems to me it would mix with the air/fuel better, possibly lubing the cylinder better.

Greetings:

My recommendation - if you ax-ted me - would be to cap 'em all, install a proper pump plug, and run 32:1. I tried the pump+Premix (1%) myself on 2 engines, and premix rules for all kinds of reasons. That little worm drive uses a tiny bit of power, and there ain't much to start with.

Yep, already have my other one configured like that with 32:1. Am doing this for dyno analysis to compare the 2.

Have taken advice of both meatball and benji and have advised my mechanic to install using Polini recommendations. Thanks again guys.
