No spark, wiring issue possibly?

Post by cwilbur0003 »

I just picked up an 86 spree. The key cylinder had been ripped out. So I have no idea which wires go where. I did manage to get all the lights on except the headlight. Blinkers and brake lights work, idk why the headlight doesn't. Also I'm not getting any spark, I got the electric start to work and I'm gettin absolutely nothing for spark. Carb looks good, I order a new cdi and coil off amazon. I'm hoping that fixes the issue but I have a feeling it may be in the wiring. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

:coolcruise: The headlights on my Elite doesnÔÇÖt come on unless the motor is running. I think Spree is the same.

Wires attatched to ignition, connect RED to BLACK and nothing else. This will get spark unless your scoot has other unknown issues.

Wrap the remaining wire(s) with tape and leave un-connected.

Undo the RED/BLACK connection when not using the scoot or battery will drain.

I recommend getting a proper replacement ignition for the long term.

I had it running for a while after putting a new cdi and coil. Now IÔÇÖm getting no power at all when I connect white/black wire to the red wire. The tail light would come on before and it would start up. Now I get no power at all. ItÔÇÖs got to be in the wiring. I can direct wire it to the battery to where I can get it to turn over but IÔÇÖm getting no spark at all now and canÔÇÖt figure it out.

The wiring harness is detailed out in the service manual, hosted here. Suggest you run down a proper ign switch, so your bike doesn't get stolen (as easily.) Headlight will not come on unless bike is running; it has a dedicated circuit that runs off the stator.

Check the fuse thats right next to the battery. Its possible you popped it when messing with ignition wire connections.
