Theory: the petcock functioned fine for many years with the vac of the Spree motor...once you apply it to AF16 pressures, it gave up the ghost?

I know the vac pressure differences are small, if any, but some components develop a functioning memory if used in repetition for long periods of time. Change one tiny thing and they go kaput. Unfortunately, finding a replacement petcock with the correct threads for the Spree fuel tank is challenging. MOST of the ones sold on Ebay that claim to fit Spree/NQ50 have incorrect threads. Ive bought 3 from different sellers and 0 would fit. Others have reported success so its a crapshoot there. If you try to force the wrong threads on and jack up your fuel tank threads, your goose is cooked and you buy a new tank.

Options:
1. Find a good used OEM petcock either here or Ebay
2. Install an in-line manual fuel valve
3. Sell a kidney and pay the sky high price of a NEW OEM petcock from Ebay if one ever pops up

Just checked.. yeppers, I have one, brand new. Should (allegedly) work for an 86-87'. I'll try to remember to test it out on the tank of the spare 86' in my garage tomorrow or this weekend when I get time to confirm it works. Would have to tear plastics off and it's too late in the evening to be fiddling around, need to get to bed.

So I got some time to work on the spree, what I thought was a bad petcock ended up just leftover the gas in the line draining. Next I checked the float to insure it was making a seal when the bowl was full. After thinking for a but I forgot I never adjusted the air/fuel screw and it was just threaded in about a 1/2 turn. I set it to 1-7/8 turns out and the fuel leak stopped. I gave her about three kicks and bam! She fired right up :coolcruise:

But thank you for the offer!

I have new rear brake shoes coming. I ended up ordering the EBC 333 for the rear. Currently I have no rear brakes and the adjustment nut is maxed out on the (SA50) cable. I didn't check the shoes before I installed the rear wheel but it would probably be best to refresh them anyway. After the braking issue if solved the only thing left is the intake for the carb. I am going to try doing what meatball said and tuck something behind the stock panel and restrict it to mimic a stock airbox.

Here is the crew (one of the red spree's got the motor swap)

 Can imagine what the wheel drum looks like

Nice collection you have there. Cherry looking 88’ gets my vote. Need a 16 swap w/Corsa on that baby next! Can use the 88’ motor in one of the Spree’s. 8)

Your garage reminds me of mine. Scooters everywhere (and 1 motorcycle). You got me beat by a couple scooters though. Soon as I find the right ones (and my wife doesn't kill me), I'll catch up to ya. My wish list is for a Gyro or 2 and maybe another Indian. Either another AMI-50, or maybe a new Indian... uh wait, can't talk about that. Signed a Non-disclosure agreement.

So I got the new rear brakes installed and functioning along with a new air filter. She runs and great with only one problem. This engine was restricted, but it hit 28 mph really fast! Exhaust has the washer drilled and I removed the plate from the Variator. Next I plan on ordering a jet kit from the scooter swap https://scooterswapshop.com/products/je ... 6775616773 and maybe removing the oil pump and run premix. I do have an extra SR pump but it has a slow leak, I am not sure how I feel about using a restricted pump tied open.

The scooter is going to sit till I get it rejetted

Took her for a ride tonight and she runs perfect! Only two things left, balance the front tire and find an option for an air filter that will fit under the stock panel.

They sell filters that angle out. If anything, you can get one, fashion the original coupler to extend it further, and that should tuck in nicely. Consider swapping the intake for an aftermarket dio as well. Fits just right on mine. Barely clears the shock, but it works.

This is the ONE... UNI filter part # UP4112-AST

Remove the red foam outer sleeve and it fits like a glove under Spree plastics.

IMPORTANT: you MUST MUST MUST restrict this filter! Cant run it free-flowing. I used the bottom end of a basic plastic water bottle. Cut the bottle in half and it slides over the filter perfectly. Tape it on with tight wraps of electrical tape at the base. Poke holes in the bottom for air flow..I used a soldering iron for melting perfect holes.

HOW MANY holes, you ask? You’ll need to play with it and find out what your motor likes. I jacked with mine for 2wks and finally got it perfect.
