I'll try to do this the short version, we just bought a 86 Honda Elite SR 50cc We can get it started while holding the throttle but the second it goes to idle it stalls out.
Already tried;
Good Spark, drained the fuel and the oil and replaced, Cleaned the carb, Checked compression, the guy before us did the whole upper on it, Checked and cleaned out the air filter, we do know that it has a bad oil pump but we bypassed it by mixing the fuel to try to get it started and running.
We removed the air filter and got it to start and stay running for about a minute and then stalled back out and we had to start the whole process over again to get it started. It's almost as if it doesn't get enough air then gets too much.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: 86 Honda Elite SR 50CC wont stay running
Greetings:
The Elite SR bowed in the U.S. after 1987 - check your model year again.
The P.O.'s top end job is suspect. What was the compression PSI?
Base gasket leaks, just for one example, can lead to all kinds of problems. So can crank seals. Also a reed valve staying open will make it impossible to get it to idle, but might start eventually giving throttle - look for a fracture or a reed that won't close. Air leaks anywhere will cause problems. There's a procedure for pressure-testing that requires a bit of work, but if all else fails...
Mix oil at 32:1. Otherwise you sound like you've done all you can.

Thank you. You are correct not an SR I was mistaken. We are going to Check all of that here in a minute. We also just went to get a new compression tester to verify for ourselves as the P.O. is the last to check it.

What model is it? It can only be a spree or aero if it’s an ‘86 unless it’s an 80cc model or larger.
