NB50 Front tire mod

Post by nateberrier »

I grabbed a met front wheel and I have an sa50 brake plate to go along. THey should generally be the same size. I might even have access to another brake plate, so pretty happy about that as I have two aeros.

I know a 2.75 rubs the speedo cable a little. I think I can tie it out of the way though. I was double checking last night. Im wondering if anyone has a 2.75 that can be run tubeless or if there is another size thats about the same. If you all have any tricks to fit a bigger wheel on an aero ill take those suggestions also

I suspect the 80/90 is as wide as a 3.00x10 since 25mm = 1 inch and 80 is the width.

I have a 3.00x10 tubeless front tire and a 90/90-10 tubeless rear on my blue 84 nb50. it also has an 86+ front forks, aluminum 2.50 wide rims and an elite150 front with 110 diameter brake shoes.
IIRC and 80/90-10 is just about the same width as a 3.00x10, but its a lower profile/ not as tall of a tire

Awesome, I'll see if I can get the elite brake plate mocked up and have someone install an 80/90 for me. Not sure if I wanna try mounting on tubeless. Either way met front and rear will be a nice upgrade. It has a 90/90 on it now so might see how bad that rubs

Greetings

I ran Met wheels and 90/90s front and rear on my '87 Aero. The centerstand will need modification to clear the back tire, and the front will kiss the fender over curb cuts, but otherwise it's fine.

does an 87 aero look like an 85/86 nb50 aero, or does it look like an 87 ne50 elite? ive never seen an 87 aero here in cali. did your 87 aero have the same special gearing as the 87 elite, or were they just leftover 86 engines & gearing?

on my blue 84 it has the 85+ trailing link forks but I sill use the 84 front fender, with the 3.00x10 I have no rubbing at all. ive even taken shocks off and ran struts to lower it with no rubbing. looked real cool, but had to run lower air psi to make it somewhat comfortable to ride.

and nate, my aluminum wheels on blue have bolt on hubs. I don't think you can run the bigger backing plate with the met wheels. but the met has 95mm brakes front and rear correct? that's a huge upgrade over the stock 80mm fronts.
on my orange 84 Im gonna run the 6 spoke dio zx wheels. except im not running the disc front. I just purchased a matching kitaco drum front wheel. I wonder what size brakes that uses. ill have to measure it today. I might need to find a compatible backing plate for it. anyone know what 95mm backing plate will work on the 84 leading link forks?

Greetings:

'85 had the 2-bolt intake and no kickstarter, but otherwise the same as '86 and '87. Gearing was 11:1, like the earlier Aeros. Coveted '87 Elite S 10:1s are very hard to find.

Just a quick update for anyone who comes after, I've been running a met wheel with 90/90 for a while and haven't had ant issue. You'll need an Sa50 brake panel
