Ch80 elite engine help needed please
Hi, just got in here.
A week ago after riding it for the second time ever, it stopped working and i walked 10 miles pushing it through the city sidewalks with all the traffic.. i enjoyed the walk even if people though i was crazy. Lol.
I had done so many repairs over a year and never went out in it since I bought until recently. The guy i bought from seemed to had taken parts out that were missing like plastic fan cover and others. Well it always had a a strange noise reappear and dissapear and i put new belt on and even rollers but none of that fixed the noise.
When it broke i looked in and the carburetor was loosen separated from the part that goes into the engine, the nut was all loosen up and that's why stopped working and i also found one of the tiny hoses of gas line broken leaking? Perhaps all the vibration cause it? and also there's now like oil or gas coming out of another front tube leaking , Not sure what it is for.
This is the first time i ever had a motorcycle. I want to upload some photos i took today to see if anyone knows anything for some tips. Thank you very much

Re: Ch80 elite engine help needed please
If your carburetor was loose from the intake, that would definitely cause air leaks. Lean conditions would cause the engine to run hot and you may have seized your top end.
Re: Ch80 elite engine help needed please
With NO FAN COVER, the engine would overheat and damage the cylinder and piston.
With carburetor LOOSE, lean fuel mixture would add to that overheat condition, making it very likely to have seized the piston.
Does the engine SPIN when engaging the electric starter motor?

Wow, when i hit the starter the day it wouldn't start it does spin but stopped ignition. Wow i bought that fan cover long ago at ebay but didn't had the screws to install it. I always thought it was bad idea to have that off but no experience with motorcycles. I hope this have a solution and i don't know where to start now. Should I open anything and clean it out?motormike wrote: ↑Fri Mar 26, 2021 1:20 pm With NO FAN COVER, the engine would overheat and damage the cylinder and piston.

Greetings:
It depends upon your Ambitions. It appears to me there are a lot of lines, cables and wires that need careful, systematic verification and replacement as indicated if you just want a reliable daily driver. If the scooter's cosmetic condition is good overall, I'd drop the engine out and find a Service Manual to dismantle completely -down to Main Bearings, check and rebuild. However that's just me. Not everyone has the time, tools and talent to tackle such a rebuild. At least figure out what's leaking all that oil and replace lines that are cracked, frayed or loose.

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.

Re: Ch80 elite engine help needed please
I rotated by hand that fan wheel and the engine seems to rotate good and with compression through the muffler i could hear the escape. So it should be good right?
I would like to go even further opening but if is not necessary i wouldn't.
So one carburetor gasket was missing all this time it seemed and the nuts were completely loosen up, not sure if the 2 nuts on were the originals or not.
I need the gasket or a kit that includes all the gaskets to replace them.. where to buy it?
Also it doesn't have the plastic cover rear fender rear wheel.
Do i need the rear fender in order to connect the fan shroud plastic box?
I bought today the gas line which was calcified hard and break easily and also got new clips. Also uninstalled the tube at front that holds oil excess and cleaned very well and used carburator cleaner too and took the battery to autoparts store for recharging.

Greetings:
Surprising it would even start, let alone run, with that carb o-ring missing. Honda/Keihin might still stock rebuild kits for your carb or carbs that are close enough. I'd start with PartZilla or somesuch and fan out.

Re: Ch80 elite engine help needed please
Thank you everyone for this help.
I can't believe that it is also missing the entire engine cover? I bought in ebay the fan cover months ago but never install it. No
Now i see that the whole engine requires a plastic enclosure, will any year fit my 1999 ch80 ? I see a cover from a 2007 model for sale. Should I buy it?

Thank you all for this magnificent help.
I did it all and it runs so well now.
There is one more thing i need to know what is causing it, i replaced the drive BELT but it keeps making that slipping noise at the moment you accelerate from 0, not sure what is causing it or what to adjust

What is a slipping noise? Like a squealing alternator belt on a car?
