Ladies & Gentlemen
I'm sure this topic has been beatin to death but I'm having difficulties getting this thing to start. Your input is much appreciated. Just installed a new starter. Bench tested it before installation. Starter relay is clicking when the starter button is depressed but that's it. Nothing happens other than this. What am I looking at? Faulty wiring? CDI?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: 84' Spree Won't Start
You can rule out the CDI.
It does not have anything to do with function of the starter motor.
I defer to other members with Spree specific knowledge to help you further.
There are differences between the years of spree regarding tooth count that
could be your issue, should you have the wrong starter.
Gasket for side cover has a specific thickness...and may be a factor as well.
Bendix gear is important item in this equation...hope someone will give you some helpful advice.
Good luck...motor...

Re: 84' Spree Won't Start
Greetings:
Measure battery voltage first. It should be close to 13 on the bench.
Does the engine spin freely by hand, or with a drill on the pulley nut?
Do you still have your original starter? Count the teeth on the output shafts and on the Bendix. As motormike said, all Spree starters are not created equal.
And remember, the Spree crankshaft spins Clockwise viewed from the pulley. Your starter might be trying to start it in reverse.
