my starter motor just hums i took it apart and it turns alright but it doesnt turn the pully or w/e its supposed to do any ideas on how to fix?

first of all if you have the cover off and hit the starter it will never catch the gear. the case has to be on for it to catch the gear.

how can i test if its turning the gear if the case isnt on because as far as i know it isnt turning it. how can i fix the not turning the drive gear issue?

Pull out the starter gear assembly (not the starter) and make sure that the gear to the starter ring is moving in/out.

eh nvm i got it working yesterday thx for the help, the gear to the starter ring just needed some dw-40 it looked burnt to s***. now its all working

If you used WD40, make sure to get our the excess, you don't want that flung onto the belt. Use a compressor. Mine had the same problem.
