Havent really done much as far as my swap, wating for all the parts to roll in and trying to gather up money to buy the rest of the parts I need. It sucks not knowing when you are gonna get paid but I prefer not having a boss so it balances out. Spent all day yesterday cleaning up parts people requested from the 86 spree motor. The shock mount came into today from richdavidson, what a swell guy super fast shipping but its rainy today so I can't really do anything outside. I must say these are some of the best welds I have ever seen especially being so small and precise. I showed it to my dad and was like this is how you weld. His welds look like crap compared to rich hahahhaha it made him a little mad my dad is almost 70 :D

I cant wait either this motor has been sitting on a crate in my "wreck" room just staring at me with a menacing glare hahah I am thinking about going down to the local machine shop and see if they will cut this motor mount for me, i am a little apprehensive about doing it with a table saw :nervous:

Well since I got the shock mount from richdavidson I couldnt just sit around on my laurels and the sun came out so I got to work on the table saw. my blade was too short so i said to * with that. I got the angle grinder and went to work on the mount, took me a while to shave it off just right after i got the majority cut I didnt have any calipers so i had to eyeball it :D I think I did a pretty good job, won't know for 100 percent till i get a back tire :( i can still make sure the mounts are right though. I came in to get the shock mount so i thought i would post some progress and you guys let me know what ya think. The hard part will be welding the tab back on for the middle hole in the frame, I have never welded before but I reckon there is a first for everything mmmwwhahah wish me luck

If you look at the mount you'll see a small slit cut into one side of it.

That slit is made to slide into the edge of the the small bracket located on the frame. Once you mount it you should be able to see what I'm talking about.

Just wanted to give you a heads up.

See pics....

Here's a better pic. This shows the bottom of that bracket sliding into that slit in the mount.

I appreciate ya rich. I finally got the motor mount somewhat finished and 2 holes drilled to bolt on the shock mount that way i could test and see how the motor was going to fit etc etc. I do have one suggestion on the shock mount. the side farthest away could stand to be bent a tad bit straighter so the bolt hole does not have to be drilled so close to the edge of the frame I am kewl with it but some people might get a little nervous :D here are some pics of what I am talking about.

check these out, the shock mount worked perfect :D still gotta weld the tongue back onto the motor mount and drill 2 more holes for the shock mount but I got tired of fooling with it plus i need a rear tire to really know if I cut my motor mount right etc. I used the elite shock instead of the spree shock. what ya think guys?

My brother just brought me a digital caliper he bought for me lol I could have used it today but as it turns out I didnt need it :P I measured my mount out of curiosity and it measures 99.7mm or 3.92in so I guess I got it right yay me hahahha :nerd: and he got me a universal valve spring holder I dont think it will fit the clutch i hope it will, will make gettting the bolt off much easier. I know why he got it, trying to tell me to get to work on his 400ex lol gotta install new valves and seat them. I MAY do that tomorrow AFTER I weld the tab on my elite mount lol

That mount looks good man!!

I'm glad it worked out for you. Thanks for the suggestion on the bend. Hopefully I get some more orders so I can make the correction on the next one.

Before you weld your motor mount tab back on, make sure you find yourself some scrap metal of the same thickness and practice welding on it first.

Since you've never welded before, you'll want your first welds on something disposable.

Spree is looking good!!

Thanks rich, I wouldnt have even tried cutting the mount etc yesterday if you hadnt sent me that shock mount, it works perfect and was sooo easy to install that anyone could do it. I may be interested in one of those side stands next. If they are anywhere near as good as the mount you should have no problem selling them. The idea of just drilling holes instead of welding will convince people to buy :D The final test will be when I get a rear tire and actually drive the thing down a bumpy gravelly road lol

Got all the holes drilled and the mount put on, btw rich I had to shim the bottom arm for the seat latch mechanism because the bolt was in the way but surely whoever gets the next one will figure it out :D Your mount is almost too easy to install hahhaha

Got the motor mount welded successful on my first try, its not pretty but it held up to hitting it with a hammer a bunch and it fit in the frame with a little assistance from the hammer hahha I welded it a tad bit crooked but as long as it works I'm kewl with that. Now I gotta get a rear tire to know if its going to be straight and a kickstart housing to even know if my motor runs hahahha
