HELP!!! GETTING THE RUN AROUND!!!
Hello, MY NAME IS DREW and im having major problems with my BELT. My '84 SPREE has chewed up 3 NEW BELTS and its coasting me a $35 a pop. This last time the belt broke i had just put on the new one and the bike felt SLUGGISH from 0-15. and a funny SQEEKING noise while stopped. FINALLY SNAP!!! and i was WALKING HOME....
I had some one look at it and they said it might be the variator and that is would be $100 to order an aftermarket one.
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK??? ANY IDEAS?
THANK YOU!
Re: HELP!!! GETTING THE RUN AROUND!!!
Someones looking for a sucker! The Spree is not variated.
I'm not sure what would cause your issue but someone who knows more about the Spree than i do should chime in soon. Do you smell something burning or does belt just snap? But don't give your $100 away.

Re: HELP!!! GETTING THE RUN AROUND!!!
It's just about impossible to diagnose what is going on there with that description. I can narrow it down to some sort of problem behind the belt cover, and it's not the belt, as that has been replaced 3 times. Pictures might help.
Re: HELP!!! GETTING THE RUN AROUND!!!
First off $35 a belt is a major rip off. I paid $18 for my last one, actually it was the only one I ever bought. But like CharlotteSpreeRider said, just not enough info to troubleshoot anything effectively. But I have rarely heard of a stock Spree tearing up belts. Maybe this high dollar belt is the wrong one.

You need to look at you trans. Sometimes the plates can be worn and cause warpage issues, inspect the rear driven plates to make sure they are moving properly and perhaps take it apart and rebuild/regrease it.
VTCycles.com for performance parts.

Drew, if you have a few days, order your belt from here:

and Sprees have no variator. Switch your shop.
